About Our Logo
The
Nostalgia Racewear Logo is a 1959 photo of our first dragster taken at Famoso
Raceway in
Bakersfield,
CA.
The original engine was a fuel injected flathead; the car was innovative
inasmuch as the frame was built with two pieces of “PBY Wing Strut” elliptical
chromoly tubing. It was built about 1954
by our good friend Joe Ito of Ito’s Automotive in
Los Angeles,
CA.
It would win many races and eventually
be fitted with a small block Chevy and subsequently the soon to be famous
Potvin Crank Drive
Blower Assembly (as seen). It was
destined to become the “Lee’s Speed Shop Chevrolet Dragster” mainly noted
throughout Southern California and featured in the November 1958 issue of Hot
Rod Magazine with the engine and blower drive on the cover.
There
was another car before it and a couple after it but many heartwarming memories
are brought back when we see pictures of that car - the old California drag
strips that no longer exist, the “Racing Family”, team members, competitors,
close friends and drivers, some who unfortunately are not with us anymore.
With
its 1929
Lincoln
front axle, today we look at the photos of the car and driver and have to laugh
as we look back and think about some of the things we did during drag racing’s
heydays. The “Driving Suit” consisted of
a WW II war surplus pilot helmet complete with Plexiglas bubble, no gloves, a
tee shirt for a driving jacket, Levi’s and tennis shoes. As we progressed we added a Lions Jacket to
be “safe”.
It’s an
entire nostalgic happening all wrapped up in that dragster. It’s emotional and hilarious at the same time
and we are pleased to bring it to our friends and followers of the 50’s and 60’s
through NostalgiaRaceWear.com.
